Aperture Card Scanning

Aperture Card Scanning

Our aperture card digitisation bureau can handle all types of microfilm cards and convert these to digital formats of your choice such as TIFF, PDF. Whether it’s just a few aperture cards or a whole library SunRise has the capacity and knowhow to deliver with the highest of standards, a cost effective scanning solution.

Whatever your Aperture Card Scanning requirement, we can assist!

SunRise can collect and return your aperture cards securely upon completion of having them expertly scanned to the highest standard. Alternatively, we can provide an on-site service, utilising our scanning equipment and highly trained team. Engineering drawings, maps and plans stored on aperture cards are digitised using specialist aperture card scanners at high resolution to capture intricate details from the aperture card film. After scanning the film, images of drawings are produced, quality checked and corrected to ensure the highest possible quality of image.

Upon completion SunRise will return all data to you (in the required format) by hand on password encrypted DVD, external USB HDU, USB sticks, via secure FTP or directly in to your ECM or document management system.

True Optical Resolution Scanning

To ensure precision and quality SunRise only scan microfilms using our own market leading scanners. Our scanners incorporate True Optical Resolution technology enabling us to replicate one pixel on the scanner camera for each pixel on your roll film image. This is achieved by optically adjusting the focal length of the camera lens to capture at true image resolution. Sunrise doesn’t use digital scaling on the image to achieve the desired resolution. As a result we produce the highest quality scanned images available.

Scaling an image can create image distortions or artefacts that are not desirable, and can be very detrimental to image quality while also affecting the ability to perform OCR (Optical Character Recognition). Many roll film scanning organisations claim to use True Optical Resolution without the ability to adjust the optical path for different reduction ratios and DPI requirements. They have one fixed setting and accomplish different resolutions by scaling or interpolating, meaning they add or remove pixels from the original image. The addition or removal of pixels will significantly reduce the image quality and the OCR precision but also constitutes a manipulation of the original image that could be challenged in some legal applications.
